2007–2008 Concert Season, Celebrating Our 33rd Year
The Community Chorus at South Berwick has two sessions each year, one in the Winter and one in the Spring. The Winter performance is traditionally holiday oriented, while the theme of the Spring performance varies. Please consider joining us for a performance. The dates, times, and locations are given below.
"From a Poet's Pen"
A concert of choral music inspired by poetry and verses from throughout the centuries and around the globe, the program includes settings of contemporary texts,, the Psalms, Native American writings, classical and folk text, Thoreau, Whitman and other American poets and more. Also included will be music by Brahms and Mennin.
For this concert, the Community Chorus at South Berwick has commissioned Charles Kaufmann of Portland, Maine, for an original composition using text by a contemporary Maine poet. Mr. Kaufmann has chosen for his work "Spheres", the poem by University of Maine professor, Constance Hunting (1932-2006). The work is scored for chorus, alto and bass soloists, and piano.
The Charles Kaufmann commission of "Spheres" is supported in part by a generous grant from Kennebunk Savings Bank. The Community Chorus at South Berwick expresses its sincere appreciation for this important financial support.
